"It's all about the songs," says Euan Robinson about a growing collection boundless in charm. Adopting a one-man band moniker to make even Damon Gough jealous, the folk music of Stars of Sunday League neither possesses the freakishness of Devendra Banhart, nor the quirks of Jeffrey Lewis, instead returning to a time of honesty and simplicity. Fellow Scots Dick Gaughan, Ivor Cutler and more recently James Yorkston offer a good place to start.
Based north of the Thames for a couple of years now, Stars of Sunday League reveals an ear for heart-wrenching melody and a deft attention to detail in song. Just listen out for the "cold benches" and "Norwegian strikers" of the (accompanied on record by Emmy The Great) self-titled track, or feel every note of 'Year of the Yes' hit the pit of your stomach. A debut EP is in the early planning stages and to be honest, it can't come soon enough.
Oh, and he can't do joined-up writing. WTF.
